Keeping children safe – Child protection and harmful sexual behaviours

Early Childhood professionals have a duty of care when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of children in their education and care services. This topic is designed to give participants the essential key understandings and knowledge base for child protection. In addition, we will explore what healthy, typical sexual development is with an aim to unpack what harmful sexualised behaviour(HSB) looks like, how it develops and what impact it has on others.
Workshop Objectives
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the concepts and themes that underpin child protection.
- Review common myths surrounding perpetrators of child abuse, and further understanding of abuse and abuse prevention.
- Identify appropriate strategies and resources that link in with child protection concepts, and ways they can be incorporated into various settings.
- Understand what healthy, typical sexual development looks like
- Understand harmful sexualised behaviour and its impacts.
- Understand the traffic light system for recognising inappropriate sexual behaviour.
